Please keep me informed about No on 16‘s developments and news.

More than one million voters — people of all races and varied political affiliations — signed petitions to put the California Civil Rights Initiative on the ballot in November 1996 as Proposition 209.

During the troubling times facing the nation, opportunistic politicians in the State Legislature — at the last moment — placed what is Proposition 16 on the November 2020 ballot. The Attorney General of California, who favors Proposition 16, tries to hide what the measure does.

Newspaper editorials condemned the misrepresentation as a measure about diversity, which is permitted and has flourished in the quarter century since Proposition 209.  A court noted the measure, as it appears on the ballot, is misleading, but could not intervene on technical grounds.  Proposition 16, if passed, would usher in a new era of government sponsored and government sanctioning of discrimination and preferences.
